International Career Seminar

グローバルマインドを養う為の人材育成を目的とする国際キャリア教育プログラムの一環として毎年開催されている2泊3日国際キャリア教育合宿セミナーが15年目を迎え、今年は10月6日~8日にInternational Career Seminarが木県青年会館コンセーレにて行われました。

合宿には、宇都宮大学の学部生49名、他大学生3名の総勢52名の多様性に富んだ参加者が集まりました。全体講義から始まり、一線で活躍する各セミナー6名の講師によるパネルトークを終えた後、参加者はそれぞれの分科会に分かれ、担当講師とともに活動テーマを選定し、話し合いを重ねた後、最終日に発表するという3日間という短期間ですが、とても中身の濃いセミナーでした。

セミナー終了後、参加者からは、「Through the seminar, I learned to become positively active. Working on the things I am interested in can extend my possibility in the future. I want to tray a lot of things without being afraid of failures.」、「My action plan is ; 1. Try anything that I hesitated to do before, 2. Communicate with people who have different values and different ways of thinking and people whom I hesitated to communicate with before, and 3. Get knowledge」、「This seminar was really helpful in developing the social skills for communicating with others, critical thinking, and etc. In addition, I gained the confidence to speak English because the seminar provided the opportunity to speack to lecturers - native English speakers. It was greatly valuable to accomplish the presentation about what we thought most interesting through the group work」等の声が聞かれました。

<注意事項>
既に行われた「International Career Seminar」「国際実務英語」「国際実務英語Ⅰ」「国際実務英語Ⅱ」を履修し単位を取得した宇都宮大学の学生は、今回履修しても単位が重複して付与されることはありません。

Let’s Start by Asking Ourselves Why We Communicate
講師:Kazuhiko Yoshida, Ph.D.
吉田 一彦 氏 (宇都宮大学国際学部 教授)

In this session we will rethink our everyday communication, examine linguistic facts and discover things that motivate us to speak to someone else. We will emphasize verbal communication and social skills. The abilities we realize throughout the session are expected to be useful for the entire seminar.

<プロフィール>
Kazuhiko YOSHIDA, descendant of Emishi and Yamato from Rikuzen-Takata, is a learner/user and instructor/researcher of foreign languages. He lived in France as a student and in Pakistan and Thailand as a Japanese language teacher. After receiving a Ph.D. in linguistics, he has been teaching linguistics and multilingual communication at Utsunomiya University since 2003. Although he has visited over 30 countries and worked with people of a hundred different nationalities, he is consistently amazed by the diversity of the world.

分科会A:Taking Peace Seriously: Towards the Understanding of UN Peace Operations
講師:Hiroshige Fujii  藤井 広重 氏
(宇都宮大学国際学部 助教)

The aim of this course is to deepen our understanding of post-conflict situations through UN peace operations. Upon completion of this course students will be able to clarify five types of peace operations. This will help you advance your own career development in the field of peace activities.

LL.M (International Human Rights Law), Adv.LL.M (International Criminal Law), Ph.D. Candidate and a member of UNU Global Leadership Training Program, Fujii was a visiting fellow at the University of Cape Town in 2016. He has professional experience in the Philippines, Ghana and the Netherlands, as well as being engaged in UN Peacekeeping Operations as a Program Advisor in Japan’s Cabinet Office. The Japanese Government dispatched Fujii to Mali Peacebuilding Center as an expert of International Criminal Justice in July 2015.

分科会B:Maximizing Individual Choice and Capabilities by Building Transnational Careers
講師:Ana Sueyoshi スエヨシ アナ 氏
(宇都宮大学 国際学部 准教授)

The mobility of Japanese born/raised Peruvians between Japan and Peru expands their range of choices as it allows them to take advantage of employment, education and investment opportunities in both countries. Discussion will be focused on capability building and how it leads to the creation of authentic freedom to choose meaningful careers and lives that the Japanese born/raised Peruvians value.

<プロフィール>
Prior to taking my current position, I worked as researcher, economic consultant and economic advisor in Peru. After my studies at the Graduate School of International Political Economy (GSIPE), Tsukuba University, Japan, I joined the School of International Studies, Utsunomiya University, where I am in charge of Latin American Studies. My research interests include Latin American economy, the link between higher education and employability in the APEC region, and Nikkei workers in Japan and Nikkei returnee children in their homeland.

分科会C:International Development and Cooperation Work - Your Future Has No Limitation!-
講師:Sae Osawa 大澤 小枝 氏 (国際開発ソリューションズ 教育コンサルタント)

Participants will discuss different career paths in international development, global issues (with a focus on education), required competencies and motivations. In this workshop, participants will present a simple plan as a start of their career steps.

<プロフィール>
Sae OSAWA has a 15-year-career in International Development as Education Specialist. Having two master's degrees: Educational Planning and Mediterranean Studies (mainly Middle Eastern Area Studies) from the University of London. She has worked mainly in the Middle East with different UN organisations such as UNICEF, UNHCR and UNRWA, NGOs and JICA. She is currently working for a project in Lebanon on improving School Based Management in five pilot schools with the Ministry of Education.

分科会D:Let’s Make Short Speeches for Developing Your Communication Skills.
講師:Kiyoshi Saito 斎藤 潔 氏
(農学部 農業経済学科 教授)

The purpose of this class is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every class member has opportunities to develop communication and leadership skills which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth. The workshop will be based on group work and discussion.

Kiyoshi SAITO has been a professor of farm management science, department of agricultural economics, Utsunomiya University since 2000. My research field is “Agribusiness in American agriculture”. I was a visiting professor of Iowa State University, USA in 2006/07. At that period, I had met Toast masters club which provides communication and leadership programs. In this seminar class, I will use this program for improving your communication and leadership skills.

分科会E:Start Your Own Business
講師:David Long デービット ロング 氏 
(Dave and Amy English School 英会話スクール経営者、講師、テキストブック執筆者、ゲーム開発者)

How can you use your skills and know how to make a business? I will give you some examples of our successes and failures using our skills in soccer, music, retail, and language schools. Let's discuss how you can apply your skills to make your business grow.

I came to Japan from Liverpool in 1996 with a small backpack. Now I have a wife, two soccer mad children and we run a number of English schools in Saitama. I believe in searching for a job and life that best suits your skills and makes you happy and fulfilled.

講師:Jack Kwok ジャック クオック 氏 (グーグル合同会社 Google Cloud, 上級クラウド ソリューション マネージャー)

In this session you will have an opportunity to rediscover yourself and to know what your strengths are, which will help to prepare you for your next exciting journey.

Jack Kwok is a Googler working on helping enterprises to adopt new technologies and innovations to transform their traditional work style to “Work the way you live,” by creating a working environment for empowering employees to become more creative and collaborative in order to gain the full power of their potential. He believes that technologies and innovations are important elements to improve human life and provide opportunities so that everyone can access and gain knowledge that was not so easy to access in the past.

宇都宮大学等で履修登録をしている学生はレポートの提出が必要となります。
